I'm going up to the City tonight, to do foodie things with foodie friends (there's a cookery bookstore! called Omnivore! which I haven't been to yet! it's having an event!)*.

Karen can't come (with a side-dish of "probably wouldn't want to"), so I'm cooking a supper for her in my absence.

When the boys wake from their necessary matutinal slumbers, they could follow this recipe from point to point, from one ingredient to the next. Rubbing their solemn little chins and analysing the traces. "Hmm: pastry trimmings over here. Onion-skins in the compost, and garlic-skins too. Shreds of kale in the pan here, smears of goat's cheese on the chopping-board, shreds of basil on the floor. And the lingering smell of sossidges, emanating from the fridge..."

I'm slightly concerned that it only wanted one egg: "cook until set", it says, but I'm finding it hard to believe there's enough egginess to achieve anything that looks like a set. Even enhanced with cheesiness. But we'll see. I too am following the recipe.

*Actually it seems to have an event almost every night, but I must be sensible. And preferably distant. I can't do this every night, it would upset Karen. And my bank balance. And the boys' constitutions.
