For the last couple of days, there have been big signs in the street, Do Not Park Here! We Will Tow You!

This morning, PG&E (the power company, for my non-CAian readers) have parked a huge cherry-picker right outside the house. I dunno, maybe everything will be fine - but I believe all the elecktrickery comes in via overhead cables, rather than being dug into the ground.

So I am preparing for emergency evacuation to the Palace Cafe, with laptop - and because I am in a cautious mood, I have fired up the laptop here to let it grab current work off Dropbox, in case the wifi at the cafe isn't working (as it sometimes doesn't). I might even power down the desktop before I go, in anticipation of loss of power, rather than deal with the consequences after (tho' I find the consequences remarkably light, after a blackout; Linux does tend to just take care of everything, and put it all back where it was when the lights went out).

All my ducks are in a row, I tell you. All of 'em. Hell, I'm even kinda prepared for nothing to happen at all. (Tomorrow's the 21st, isn't it? Maybe this is a dry run.)

[EtA: okay, now they're being noisy. I'm off.]

US Customs has selected your shipment for a random physical exam. This is going to cause a further delay and extra costs.

Oh, for fuck's sake. It's books. They know this. The paperwork says so, and they've X-rayed it already to check. Is this because it got dumped in Mexico (thanks, guys: so much benefit, so very much), or just random let's-fuck-with-Chaz?

*barely checks for cats before he starts kicking things*

That - since you ask - is a chocolate pear cake. If I'd thought, it might have been a chocolate ginger pear cake, but hey. There's always next time.
