Stray cats will, of course, not be named - but I seem to have started calling our yard cat Shady. On account of we have this lovely sunny yard, and he's a cat, and yet he spends most of the day tracking the shade around and lying in it. Even unto the point of lying in my own shade, where he spends some time in my lap getting scritched and then climbs up over my shoulder - pausing only for a little affectionate head-butting - in order to lie on the patio table directly behind me, where I will block his sun for him. Any day now he's going to start moving me around, for better shadowing.

Anyway, there's that. In other news, we had a party yesterday and it was good and people came and thank you people for coming to our party. Today I am mostly cleaning things and reading books and being quiet. Lunch was steak-and-mushroom stir fry with salad, and I made a blue cheese dressing and I really really like it. It's kind of like an uncooked version of the blue-cheese-and-sour-cream sauce that I make for pork sometimes. Who knew, and why didn't anybody tell me? (Blue cheese dressing is not such a thing in the UK, unless my memory is playing me false. Who can say? Not I, obviously. Of course it exists, but it is actually possible to live for fifty years and never come across it on a plate. Apparently. I'm fairly sure of that.)

Dinner tonight will be leftover chilli. With rice, because I think rice is important with chilli. And kale, because cruciferous vegetables are important with Karen.

Hah. His name is not at all Shady, no it isn't. For we went to talk to our nice neighbour Bill, mostly about replacing the fence between his yard and ours, because it billows like a sail in the wind; and I asked, and indeed: our cat is his cat, and he is called Leo. And he is a veteran of eleven years, and also of tantalising indoor cats; until recently he has mostly been hanging out at the neighbours' of Bill's other side, in order to torment their four precious bundles of fur. Now he is mostly hanging out at ours, to tease our two. All cats are evil in some way, I find: even snugglebunnies. It's in the job description.

Bill also has a dog, who is a big fat bouncy yellow Lab who is called Chispa (which is Spanish for Sparky, apparently) and gets out on the street every now and then and has to be returned; and we will be three days with no fence between Bill's yard and our own, so we predict invasions. Mac is going to be soooo outraged...
