Shameless self-promotion seems to be a legitimate meme around here, which I think entitles me to point out that Artie has posted a review of 'Bridge of Dreams' in his blog. Which cheers me enormously, as I sit here confronting rewrites on 'River of the World'. I do kind of like rewriting, this micro-level of engagement with a text suits me well (I have a copy-editor's soul, with all the pedantry, logophilia and eye-for-the-minutiose that that implies); but I have read the first fifty pages of the book and scribbled all over them, and it would take at least the rest of the day to work out those scribblings into actual rewritten text, and actually it doesn't work like that because I reread on screen as I go and spot other changes, other cuts, and the book needs them and my editor needs them done but most of all my editor needs the book, and aaargh! - where's a classic SF time-anomoly trope when you need one?

Wasn't sure if your subject line was meant to be a repetition of "meme" or "me" - I guess both work ;)

But the book sounds good. I'll have to add it to my ever-growing pile.

Both of those, emphatically; it's a me-meme. Copy-editors are playful beasts; I really should've been one.

Do give the book a try, if you're inclined. Bashful modesty forbids too much self-promotion, alas, but some people whose opinion I respect have been quite nice about it...

Well I was inclined enough to check out the nearby bookshop during lunch, and sure enough it was there. Will probably write my thoughts in my LJ when I've read it.

Seems like LJ is influencing my reading choices quite a lot these days :)

That review hit the nail on the head.
