That's that, then. I have completed the revision on "Dragon in Chains", and sent it (irrevocably!) to my agents. Opinions will be forthcoming.

For number-crunchers: I started with c 195,000 words, and ended up with c 153,000. Which as I was hoping but not expecting to get it down under 150K is pretty much on target.

There is of course still more work I'd like to do to it, but that's all adding words and will all take time; I thought it better to get it out there now, and see how other people feel.

I may have skimped the last twenty pages, as m'friend Gail-Nina Anderson was reading ghost stories in town this evening; but I got to the end and mailed the text away and was barely late for the gig.

And came home this evening to a little piece of good news: my story "The House of Mechanical Pain" from Phantoms at the Phil: The Third Proceedings has been nominated for a Bram Stoker award in the Long Fiction category (just). That makes two stories on awards longlists (don't forget you can still vote for Terminal if you're a member of the BSFA - till Jan 19th!). The Stoker is again not juried, it's a vote by the membership of the HWA; I don't know the procedure, because I'm not a member. S'pose I should put the story up online, for the benefit of those who are; not many people are actually going to see the book (unless you buy it! From me! Now! Act now...!).
