Does blood lose its clotting-factor in middle age? When I was a young man, I never bothered to have sticking-plasters in the house; accidents with knives were as commonplace then as now, but a minute under the cold tap, maybe a minute's pressure with a tissue and I was sorted. No more bleeding.

These days? I can leak and ooze for hours, despite elaborate precautions. It's a pain.
