The Tolkien Estate is suing New Line, over its apparently total failure to cough up monies due. Which is, inherently, casting a blight over any further intended movies, like, f'rexample, The Hobbit. Times two. Did it not occur to these movie types, that that might happen...?

Seeing as JRR was a long time dead before New Line came into existence,it could just be another step in the dance of 'Let's all grab a handful off the top . . .'

New Line started as a cheap studio, and still seems to operate as one. Peter Jackson had to sue to get his rightful cut of the profits too.

Consider - the interest on what they haven't paid over the last few years versus the opposition's legal fees. There probably isn't much (if anything) in it.

I was about to mention Peter Jackson had to sue to get something like his fair share. What wrecks me is the fact that everyone involved seems to consider this standard MO, as Jackson seems quite willing to do further work with them.

Even though it may make me appear like someone who holds a grudge (yes, I am), I certainly wouldn't want to deal again with someone who's tried to bilk me out of my fair share, and someone I've had to sue before they did cough up the dough. Obviously Jackson is more of a Christian than I am, or he's used to this sort of shenanigans. What a way to run a railroad...

But to try and hoodwink the Tolkien estate... Man, that's just beetle-browed stupid, especially when they want to milk the cow further.
