The book of my enemy has been remaindered
Aug. 5th, 2008 05:44 pmActually the title of this post is probably not true - there's nothing like conspicuous success for inspiring true enmity, I find - but it's still a good line. And the converse is absolutely true, that the book of my friend may be pre-ordered.
My talented and delightful colleage Daniel Fox - that's
moshui, to those of you in the know (read him! he posts about writing! not idiotic cats and cooking!!) - is publishing a fantasy trilogy with Del Rey, and the first of this, Dragon in Chains, may be pre-ordered now: from Amazon.com or from Amazon.co.uk.
Pre-ordering is good. It indicates demand; it makes the publishers smile; it makes the bookshops order more. We like this.
Also, you will like this book. How not? It has a dragon! In chains! Also armies and an island and pirates and paddy and fishermen and palaces and barricades and temples and stuff. Lots of stuff. Few come through unscathed, for such is the nature of stuff.
And a dragon.

Date: 2008-08-06 08:05 am (UTC)(One in particular, the man who wrote the highest-profile review I've ever had, half a page in a major national weekend paper - and he didn't just slag the book, he mocked it. Pointed and laughed, like a playground bully. I'm happy to say he was sacked shortly afterwards for being relentlessly negative about everything - and his own career as a novelist never took off - but these are small comforts. I had a plan once to post a photo of him on my website, and every visitor could kill one pixel, so that slowly over years he would be destroyed. Remaindering is better.)
