Thank you. I had the idea it was a very select pub (a silent area - hey, what do I know?). But, if it is a library, why is it called the Lit & Phil? If these are inane questions, you are welcome to distract me with more cat pictures. The place is very beautiful.

It is more properly the Literary and Philosophical Society of Newcastle upon Tyne. There's a brief overview of its history here (http://www.litandphil.org.uk/html_pages/LP_history.html), but essentially it started as a discussion group a couple of hundred years back, became a club with premises, developed a book collection... Like that. Evolution. We do still have a programme of learned lectures and indeed discussion groups, but essentially these days it's a library.

Are there hell. There are highly trained and intelligent staff who view me as a kind of pet, I think; they call me Chaz, on the whole. And let me do things I'm not really supposed to, and (I am sure) roll their eyes and laugh quietly behind my back.
