Quick side-note to those of my friends still looking for agenty representation: John Parker (late of MBA) and John Berlyne are setting up a new agency, the Zeno Literary Agency, "with a particular interest in science fiction and fantasy". Go for it, ye masses...

I hope it's not Zeno in the sense that they always make progress but never quite get anything published. Perhaps the Cauchy Agency would be better, with a nice sense of continuity.

Hee. I bet they know not this Cauchy. Nor the Problem of Apollonius, neither.

But are they friends with Apollyon (whose name I often confuse with Apollonius'), is the question.

If you were a Jehovah's Witness, you could avoid all that confusion by believing that Apollyon was Jesus...

Now, that would disturb my circles.

I've already sent them a query. But my hopes aren't high. Agents seem uniformly decided that I'm not a good proposition...

Yeah, I suffer from the same curse.

Onward! Agents are rarely uniform about anything. You'll find the right one eventually...

I'm so there - I've just emailed to them asking what they want in a sub.

Could you share? (I have this vision of fifty people all mailing for the same information...)

Hmmm... Giving succour to the competition? Can I do that?

I was told to email information about myself and my novel and they'd get back to me if they were interested.

And now I'm off to read your LJ to see who you are!

If I'm not the fiftieth person asking the same question, thus annoying them tremendously, I am doing you a favour - they'll have more time to read your query, and they'll be in a better mood.

Besides, I don't buy this whole 'competition' ethos. Writers who help others and are helped in turn are far more likely to succeed than those who try and outdo 'the competition.' Don't strive to be better than others, strive to be good.

Nope, neither do I. Not at all. (Honest!) I love other people reading and critiquing my work and I can honestly say that it's been improved immeasurably because of that. I also refuse to worry about other people getting a contract/published/rich and famous (delete as applicable) before me. Life is too short and it just cuts into writing time. Not that I'm actually doing much writing at the moment. But, hey. When I get around to starting the next one (when all the million other things that get in the way of my writing time are out of the way) I'll not be wasting my time worrying if someone else is getting 'my' contract.

Quite frankly, good luck to you! (Have you had anything published yet?) And, anyway, having checked your LJ, I've nicked a link to another agent that I didn't know about... So, if there is any even-ness to be had, we are.

Yes, but do they have a special disinterest in por^Werotic romance? :-)

I'll very happily go for it the moment they put up submission guidelines...

That makes, what, eight UK agencies accepting fantasy?
