I am not ready for this; Christmas has come too early for my poor convalescent body. Kneading marzipan makes my thumb hurt; breaking chocolate makes my scar hurt, 'cos it's right over the knuckle there.

But! Please to behold my fortitude! I do not flinch from pain, where food is the issue.

Except I complain on my LJ, of course, that's not very fortitudinous; but you will doubtless excuse this brief display of weakness. I shall be reinfortitu reinforced by watching Stephen Fry in Tom Brown's Schooldays, while I roll coffee beans in chocolate. With or without marzipan. He's good for my fortitude, is Stephen.

You are indeed a man of great dedication. We decided the holidays were simply too much for us this year. So we will exchange just a few presents with immediate family and closest-buddy friends, light a few Chanukah candles, have Christmas breakfast with Rose and Marcie, and sleep late most mornings. Spent last evening cuddled in front of a fire, watching the new Sense & Sensibility. Seems to be about our speed these days.

Marzipan...

In an unrelated note,a while ago you asked, 'Chaz can has pictures?' Now, Chaz can (though Acornpaws Blu-Macy refused to be photographed) this is Waydanks Sugarbabe.

Ooh, do you make your own chocolate-coated coffee beans? That's dedication to the cause, that is. I can't decide whether it's hedonistic, or whether I'm more hedonistic because I just sit on my bottom and eat them.

I am trying. It is not as easy as instructions make it sound...

I suspect failure will result, at worst, in not-pretty-but-nevertheless-delicious.

I couldn't read the entire post because I saw the word "marzipan" and briefly entered food nirvana. I love marzipan with a love that cannot be named. And I almost never get to eat it -- certainly not here.

But, but, why not? Oh, it may not be a Hawai'i dish, but it's the easiest thing in the world to make: ground almonds, an egg, a little lemon-juice and you're done...

No sugar?

We don't own a food processor, only a blender for smoothies.

Oh. Yeah. Sugar. Sorry. A pound of almonds, half a pound of sugar, one egg, one lemon. Sorted.

Don't need food processor, if you can buy ground almonds and icing sugar (I know these are not your words: confectioners' sugar and - oh, I don't know, powdered almonds, might you say? I know I've seen a US expression that made me think "oh, that must be ground almonds"). Mix those two in a bowl, beat the egg with the lemon juice and mix it in, then knead by hand till you have a homogenous paste. Done. Om-nom-nom.
