I seem to have perfected the parsnip chip by accident.

All I really wanted was to re-season my wok (which has suffered some catastrophe I don't understand, and totally lost its magnificent slip-slidey anti-gravity lovingly-developed patina: rice has been sticking to it! oh noes!!), so I thought I'd try a little deep-frying. Only then you do actually have to, y'know, fry something. Parsnip chips, then. It's always good to have something new to do with a parsnip.

They are thoroughly approved by the boys also. And it was double fun watching the boys lick the oil from the plate, nudging aside the crunchy nuggets of salt that even Mac doesn't really want to eat more than one or two of...

Also, the roasted vegetable soup is a good thing. Lots of cherry tomatoes and garlic, plus carrots and shallots and celery. Roast in olive oil, whizz in chicken stock. Suddenly realise it's vegetarian and add bacon croutons just in time. Phew.

It's not vegetarian if it's got chicken stock in it. That's a bit like fish being the other white vegetable.

You are of course right, but that total "eek! I've cooked veggie by accident!" panic response is not susceptible to accuracy. And sometimes I have trouble remembering that bacon is not a vegetable; chicken stands no chance, in my bewildering taxonomy.

(Actually, seriously, I was veggie for four and a half years - except that just once I ate salami, because I had just never made that crucial connection between salami and, y'know, meat...)

You an make a Japanese dribbling sauce if you want to get decadent: sesame seeds and honey and vinegar and maybe a bit of soy. Works well on sweet potato chips, too.

I've met people who regard fish as a vegetable. Sometimes chicken.

This is the first time I've seen salami on a list of veggie foods.

I am unique, and tread forth more boldly than others; but it's all a matter of perspective, I am sure. One could make a case that meat is just recycled vegetable...?

Wah. You are making me hungry. It's only 10.15. I'm not allowed any food until noon at the earliest.

I have corrupted you. This is a good thing :). (I have a real recipe for a proper dribbling sauce somewhere, which one of my Japanese friends gave me years ago, so if my vague list of ingredients doesn't work, hoy me.)
