Home again

Once again, I am back: from Eastercon this time. That's three weekends in a row I was away. I do not do this; I am not doing it again. I'm not leaving the house again, for mumfths and mumfths and mumfths. If you want me, you will find me here.

If you know me, it seems unlikely that you will want me. Apparently, when in company I make a careful point of ensuring that everyone knows just how much pain & distress I am feeling. This is ... disconcerting, to see reflected back at me by a whole damn con. During these months - sorry, mumfths - of isolation, I shall mostly be practising my stiff upper lip. With apologies, to everyone who had to put up with my whining this weekend. (Anyone who tells me "no no, you were a brave little soldier" will be summarily shot by my brave little rifle, see it here?)

Still. Damaged or not (there I go again!), here I am again. And home to the editor's comments on the new book. At which of course I have not yet looked, but she says many nice things in the accompanying e-note, so I'm hopeful they will not be too exsanguinating. Also she says "I'll be out all
next week, so please feel you have all the time you need to go through it."

Ah, right then. That would be, um, a week...?

I would buckle down, but, y'know. I have cats, who haven't seen me for so long they've forgotten what I do. I'm not the nice man who feeds them, they know him, he's called Steve. I must have some function, they suppose, but damned if they can figure out what it might be.

Tomorrow...

Welcome home. :-) I do hope a few days away from the keyboard has done your tendons some good.

I'm *sure* you don't whine more than I do.

Hmmm.

Yet perhaps that thought will not be comforting to you. In my family, I am known as The Whiner.

I don't believe I heard you say a word about how you were..so I heard no complaints.. just so you know you didn't whine all the time..

We were almost back at the hotel last night when I realised I hadn't said goodbye! Big Apologies!

I have to say I love seeing you at conventions as I'm always assured of a big cuddle so please keep up the good work!

Yes our cats made strange for an hour or so - then they went back to ignoring us as per usual.

D.

I can back up irishkate in her assertion!
(And try being a doctor anywhere - you are a walking diagnosis machine with no social life! *g*)

Half my friends are doctors, and it's taken me half a lifetime to learn not to pester them with Symptoms. (And I still fail sometimes...)

Do you always come home from conventions feeling you've made a hash of it and revealed yourself for the (insert horrible self-evaluation conclusion) you really are? Because when one doesn't see dozens and dozens of people every weekend in big noisy social situations, one gets seriously overstimulated and it's too easy to just spill one's guts when someone says, "So how have you been?" Which is embarrassing, not to mention messy. Gosh, I wouldn't know about that.

*snickers* *points upwards* Yeah, that. And me trained to interact with the reading public and all...and I still feel that way after every damn convention (and often in the middle, not just once home)

So I suspect you are hardly the drudgery bore that you've convinced you were. And if you were, occasionally, your friends understand the cause, and still tolerate you, 'cause that's what friends do....

You can get training for this?

Yeah. But it involves red-hot irons. And sales conferences.

To be honest, I don't think you were whining. I think you were pretty restrained, to the point that I pretty well missed any such cues.

(It might amuse you, by the way, that now I'm the proud owner of a copy of Alice in Wonderland, bought very shortly after you departed the premises.)

I do not mind whining in the least. Please whine. Pain is evil and needs to be whined about.
And through it you remained delightful company.

Well I didn't think you whined. Pined for the boys, perhaps, but no whining. Will buy you a drink next time so you can weep into your beer.
