F - Flavor ice cream: none, thanks. Don't like the stuff; it's too cold to taste properly

G - Gold or Silver?: Silver - I love that sense of darkness underneath the shine - but I do wear gold in my ears. V romantic gesture when young (two boys getting each other's ears pierced just because, picking earrings and swapping one of each, aaah), and the option to override no longer exists.

H - Hometown: Oxford, but I've lived all my adult life in Newcastle

I - Insomnia: always

J - Job Title: freelance writer. Sometimes I say typist, sometimes hack. Actually, I usually say novelist, because it saves at least one of the follow-up questions

K - Kids: No, no. A thousand times no.

L - Living arrangements: a small house in inner-city Newcastle, property of one cat

M - Mum's birthplace: Rangoon

N - Number of significant others you've had: Oh, lor' - is this the Four-Weddings question, where she counts everybody she's ever slept with, or does it mean 'significant'? Assume the latter, on account of failing memory: seven. Ish.

O - Overnight hospital stays: many, mostly when young. None since I took out insurance that will pay me money next time. Sigh.

P - Phobia: None, so far as I know. Lots of dislikes/rants/fears, but nothing I could count as phobic.

Q - Queer: Nowt as queer as Chaz. mevennen said "I just can't get over a liking for men." Exactly.

R - Religious Affiliation: disaffiliated

S - Siblings: Three by blood (a brother and two sisters - not in that order, currently located in Cornwall, Birmingham and Orkney. I'm in Newcastle. It's probably not possible to be further scattered, without actually leaving these islands), two step-sisters.

T - Time you wake up: ever earlier. These days, 6.00am. Whatever happened to me...?

U - Unnatural hair colours you've had: multicoloured - but that was long ago, and for a part on stage. These days, the head is shaved and the scalp au naturel.

V - Vegetable you refuse to eat: currently, there seems to be nothing left on that list.

W - Worst habit: never you mind.

X - X-rays you've had: hands, arms, shoulders, spine, legs, feet, teeth - all of me, I think, more or less.

Y - Yummy: food, alcohol, men. Some women too, speak it softly, shock horror. All cats.

Z - Zodiac sign: Capricorn (or in the Chinese manner, I'm an Earth Dog. Make of that what you will; people do).
