Actually I mostly went to Cambridge, to stay with [livejournal.com profile] la_marquise_de_ and the marquis; but this was Cambridge with Londony interruptions. We went up to town (does anyone else still say "up to town", meaning London? I learned it from my mother...) once so that I might interview Kari live onstage for the BSFA meeting-in-a-pub, whereat I asked inarticulate questions that she sailed boldly through (and David Weber was there incidentally, and, y'know? We think he's going to be a fine GoH at Eastercon next year...).

And then yesterday we went back to town again for a mass signing at Forbidden Planet, only I came over all asthmatic (bloody volcano!) and had to be led away by the hand, more or less. So we walked awhile in what I am pleased to call the fresh air (hah! town fug!!), and fled to Chinatown where there are no cars; and so of course walked up and down reading menus and fending off barkers, until we could fend no more and were seducted inside a restaurant. Softshell crab and crispy seaweed, salt-and-pepper prawns and Szechuan duck - I'm so sorry you couldn't be there.

Then back to the marquisate where I dosed myself liberally with their whisky, and home today. Trains were better than I'd expected, full but not overflowing with frustrated non-flyers (tho' I would rather like to have a word with the scheduler who allowed the train to Scotland to leave Peterborough thirty seconds after the train from Cambridge had come in; they could've held it for a little minute, in the confident assumption that there would be people on the one who wanted to be on the other, rather than letting us stand on the platform and watch the bloody thing pull out), and I myself am better too, wheezingwise. Tho' my ears have gone weird again. This is boring...
