There used to be a New York agent who had a standing bet on, that no publisher could produce a contract and then the payment due on that contract - using their regular system, no cheating - faster than his author could produce the novel that was its subject.
No publisher ever took that bet, but I bet it's been withdrawn now. Things have changed.
I sent an email to my agent to say a positive yes to Solaris an hour and twenty minutes ago. I've just printed out the contract that came back.
I like living in the future.
(Tho' I note to my amusement that publishing contracts still haven't quite caught up, try tho' they do. I am now legally committed to supplying them with either a typescript or a disc [sic] of The Work. Um, no?)
