I? May just have solved my own pipework dilemma, sans benefit of plumbers.
I'm kind of stubborn, in a slow and anxious kind of way. So I had another bath tonight. And I was going just to leave the water till the morning, then maybe bail it out - but no. Armed with my new and v cute wind-up LED torch, I put a baking-tray beneath the leaky joint, pulled out the plug and peered. Saw exactly where the water was dribbling out, put back the plug, reached in and twiddled a twiddly thing, which was not even finger-tight. Out with the plug again, and the leak was worse. Ah: that will have been the wrong way, then. How very counter-intuitive...
So I twiddled it counter, till I felt it tighten. Tried again. Less leakage. Twiddled again, 'til I could twiddle no more. Let loose the water - and no drips! Not a drop!!
I'll test it again in the morning when everything's dry and I can be certain sure. And then I will cancel the plumber. And in a month or two, when I'm really sure, maybe I'll put back the bath panel...
