Do people think that one can use "mastery" without a gender implication, simply to mean acquired skill? Given that "mistressy" doesn't actually exist, never mind sounding silly to my ear? Or does "she has demonstrated mastery" just inherently strike a wrong note, despite the lack of a direct alternative?
