You may all hate me now
May. 8th, 2011 06:30 pmNo, I am neither away nor dead. Just a little overwhelmed by the world, and not much inclined to talk about it.
Still, there have been good bits. Friday I had dinner with
fjm, and then wandered up the hill and came over all wheezy and so stopped off at Andrew & Celia's, and there was a bottle or so that needed drinking, so we obliged; and as I left a voice hailed me across the square, and that was Paul, who was sharing a bottle or so with friends in the garden and would I join them, so I did; and so I sort of had to drink my way through Newcastle before I could get home.
And then yesterday I went down to Sunderland, to proofread Bryan and Mary Talbot's new graphic novel. It's Mary's book really, about her own young self and her father and James Joyce and his daughter Lucia. It's fascinating.
And I stayed over, as ever, and they got me sufficiently mind-altered that we watched Avatar on The Biggest TV In The World (tm) and actually I really enjoyed it. As opposed to seeing it sober at the far end of a bus in a snowstorm, when I didn't.
And this morning Mary and I talked about her garden, as we do; and Bryan made bacon and eggs, and then drove me home. Where I have successively put myself on the outside of a pot of tea and a beer and a glass of gin. I guess I was in want of hydration.
