I just tried to follow a link, and got a page telling me that I'd have to turn Adblocker off if I wanted to view the content: "this site depends on advertisements to fund it, so do the decent thing and turn off Adblocker, here's how..."

Is that common out on the interwebs? I've never seen it before.

(And no, I forwent the site rather than turn off Adblocker, thanks.)

I would be highly suspicious of a site that (1) checked whether a browser ran Adblocker and then (2) required visitors to turn it off. Adblocker (and NoScript) are not just about getting rid of ads, after all. Better to skip the content altogether than to be baited into picking up malware.

Aye, that was what I thought too. I didn't know whether Adblocker did act against malware, but just on general principles: any site that wants me to turn off a layer of protection is not getting my vote as a safe place to be.
