I seem to be giving myself a surprise birthday tea-party (I knew nothing about it, I swear...). Dunno if anyone's coming, but hey. I have made an orangeblossom-syrup cake, and - the big news of this morning - I just knocked up a quick bowl of amazingly-authentic taramasalata, and y'know what? Honestly? Barry likes smoked cod's roe. He does. For values of 'likes' that would almost certainly include hurling himself beneath the wheels of speeding locomotives, if I let him anywhere near the railway tracks. I unwrapped the roe, and he was just there. Climbing my leg to get at it. So I skinned it, and he got the skin. And the wrapping to lick. And, all right, the odd finger's-worth here and there. I am not noticeably mean to my cat - but whatever, it wasn't enough. The taramasalata is in the fridge, and Barry is sat before the fridge, trying to figure out how that accursed door works. He can open most doors in this house; if he could only get some purchase on it, I'm pretty sure he could open the fridge door too. Happily, it's off the ground...

Now I must face the hoovering. Feel my pain.

*laughs* Poor, poor Barry. You're a cruel human, you are. :)

Birthday tea sounds wonderful. :)

One of our cats is overly clever like that and could, if only he had thumbs, open every door and container in the house.

Hoovering! Ha!! I don't even know where the thing is behind all these boxes that need to be unpacked. Unless the giant dust bunny of doom comes for me, I'm not even looking for it either.

Thank you kindly...

Oh, and huge sympathies over Son-unit's arm (and also Daughter-unit's distress - that's kinda moving, y'know? Neither of my sisters got that upset when I was hospitalised. Snf!). I hope you got some sleep, and that the surgery goes well...

Thank you ever so much for the tea, it was utterly gorgeous, from the crisps (what were they again? My brain has stopped working. The Yorkshire ones, I mean...) to the taramasalata - which I usually don't like, because it's always far too salty for my tastes, to the orange-blossom syrup cake. Not to mention the scones and jam and cream that [livejournal.com profile] shewhomust made.

And, of course, the opportunity to indulge in endless rounds of one-upmanship in the 'Torchwood was crap because...' discussion.

Enjoy the truffles!

PS. The hoovering was brilliantly done! And Max loved your office...

And Max loved your office...

Well, he did a bit - but only because it was full of undiscovered treasures. Drawing-pins, f'rexample (thumb-tacks, in translation - endlessly fascinating, to a three-year-old), and old clockwork toys, and...

Make sure you don't leave a dishtowel on the handle of the fridge. I used to do that -- and the twins figured out if they both tugged on it, they could pop open the door. And pull bits out and spill them on the floor.

Fortunately, they never locked Elsa or themselves in the fridge -- and no towels on the handles anymore.
