Walnut bread and chestnut honey. Mmm. It will be no surprise to any of you that Barry and I are at one in this; nor that we are at two on the subject of sharing.

Also, I have chilli seeds! Just in time, as tomorrow (Feb 1) is my formal chilli-planting day; gotta start them early in these northerly climes, to get a decent season of fruit.

What I question is whether I'll actually be allowed any fruit at all this year, whether I'll even be allowed to grow them through to fruiting. The windowsills are Barry's, and all that thereon is; except that shortly thereafter it isn't, 'cos he knocks things off, in order to free up more space for Himself. How I can persuade him to let his lovely windowplaces fill up with greeny growing things that he doesn't even want to eat, I have no idea. Last year I had mature plants, and he destroyed them all by violence; I can't see seedlings lasting.

On the other hand, neither can I sit on my hands and do nothing, not try. So the seeds go in the pots tomorrow (save those that go by post to [livejournal.com profile] gauroth, and anyone else who wants some...? C'mon, you know you want to; growing chillies is fun, and there is nothing like their fresh-harvested juicy hotness...).

We managed to grow quite a lot last year in the greenhouse. I'm going to try it again, although the red ones will have to be decorative (I can't eat them and now neither can T!).

Don't just look at 'em, give 'em to people. It's good to share. And the more you cut, the more the plants will crop, so you'll still have your decorativity...

(They are good to look at, though, ain't they? This chilli-icon is just some of my first serious year's cropping; I loved 'em in the bowl. Just, I loved 'em better in my mouth...)

I could try. I did that for a couple of years, to amuse the girls; we used to play hunt-the-nip, where I went outside and Moved The Pot, and Misha came out to find it. Trouble was, then she ate it, and then she went indoors to be sick. I tired of this game before she did. Persistent little beast, she was.

PS - T has my genuine and heartfelt sympathies, if he's had to give them up. Is that for medical reasons, or is it just that his tastes have changed through the treatment...?

It's still too hot after the radiotherapy. He was a great one for hot food but even a mild curry is too much now. I've never been able to cope with red chillis.

My suggestion is hanging pots. That's my plan for the next attempt at house herbs because I live with vegetarian cats (to whom few things are more irresistible than leaves, but won't touch shrimp, fish or hamburger).

You got there before me. But yes, hang the pots above his head.

Chillies!

Chaz, you are a love. My address: 21 Wallers Way, Hoddesdon, Herts, EN11 9LH. I haven't grown anything successfully since the bumper crop of teeny-tiny carrots I produced at Primary School (the top 2 years were taught gardening because Miss Gooden, aka Goody-Gumdrops, the headmistress, believed that gardening was a Useful Accomplishment for gels.) The chillies will find a good home and lots of tlc.

Hanging pots have been our salvation.

They hang, in the windows....

I can't wait to see what Barry will make of hanging pots full of chilli plants - how fortunate that you are tall!
