Octavia Butler Memorial Book
Jan. 22nd, 2013 07:34 amI don't do a lot of barefaced promotion on this blog, for reasons that are apparently only obvious to some; but here's a book we've published at Book View Cafe, and it's important.
You all know who Octavia was, and what she wrote, and why it matters. Since her death, a fund has been established in her memory, to help bring writers of colour to the Clarion workshops. All the monies raised by Bloodchildren will go directly to that fund, I'm just sayin'.
Bloodchildren (Anthology)
Stories by the Octavia E. Butler Scholars
Nisi Shawl, editor
January 22, 2013 $8.01 ISBN: 978-1-61138-237-2

Eleven original stories by recipients of the Octavia E. Butler Memorial Scholarship (2007 through 2012), plus a reprint of "Speech Sounds" by the scholarship's namesake, Octavia E. Butler. This anthology also includes a brief memoir of Butler by her Clarion classmate Vonda N. McIntyre and an introduction by Nalo Hopkinson. Edited by Nisi Shawl and published by the Carl Brandon Society, the administrator of the Butler Scholarship Fund.
Nisi Shawl is reviews editor for The Cascadia Subduction Zone, a member of the Clarion West board of directors, and a founding member of the Carl Brandon Society. Her collection Filter House won the 2009 James Tiptree, Jr. Award.
This link will take you to the BVC page where you can download the book for a donation of $8.01 - and I'm sure there's a reason for that extra penny, and it's probably explained somewhere, but. It's not explained in this here blog, because I don't understand it. *shrugs*
