First butterfly of the year!

At least, the first butterfly I've noticed this year. No idea if that's unusual in mid-Feb over here. It's bright and sunny and warm-in-the-sun out there: T-shirt and sandals weather, except that I'm putting on boots and awesome socks and a jacket too, because I'm going up to the city and who knows?

My friend Marie Brennan is launching her new book, A Natural History of Dragons, at Borderlands this afternoon. As it happens, that Daniel Fox fellow has a blurb on the back of the book, so I'm going to cheer from the back. Also I'm hoping to shop for Seville oranges, as they're bizarrely hard to find here in the heart of citrus country.

And I'm going up with our friend Mark, who's over from the UK for business reasons. Lucky guy: he comes up to SF with me on Chinese New Year, and I take him shopping for oranges...

Berkeley Bowl is fairly certain to have Sevilles, but phone first.

Alemany farmers market in San Francisco is good for varied citrus; the Sunday one at Civic Center is not quite so good but Sevilles may turn up there.

Bi Rite Market had Sevilles! And it's just around the corner from Borderlands, where I was going anyway...
