Ah, the best-laid plans
Apr. 10th, 2013 08:12 pmSo I was going to give you advance notice, because absence of evidence on the day itself would in this case have been evidence of absence: difficult though it be to credit, Sunday marks the first anniversary of our wedding, and it was our plan to be in Paso Robles, visiting vineyards with Bruce and Susan.
Unhappily, they've had to cancel for family reasons, so we're a bit adrift. If anyone has bright ideas what to do in California over a weekend, let us know...?
In the meanwhile, when I'm not going "Lawks! Has it been a year already, nearly?" I am going "One down, fifty-nine to go," because on our sixtieth the Queen is still obliged, I think, to send me a congratulatory message, expatriate though I be. Actually, by that time I plan to be living on Mars - I've got the "Occupy Mars" T-shirt and everything - but no doubt there will be interplanetary messaging of some sort.
Actually, come to think, she will have had a practice run at that, because I will have passed my hundredth birthday before then. Poor dear, she'll be getting writer's cramp, so many messages... (Why yes, I do have this notion of the Queen as an eternal being. She was on the throne before I was born; I expect her to be there when I die, and still go on and on. Which may be why I'm writing currently about a sempiternal Queen Victoria, tho' I haven't told anyone that yet...)
