desperanceThe guy over the road is replacing his own roof. By himself, when he has the time. Evenings and weekends, largely. That's okay, he's not in any hurry; this is California. It's only rained once all the month he's been at it already.

He's almost finished the boarding, after all these weeks - but he must be planning something more than boards. Something to go on top, some kind of tile, probably.

Self-sufficiency is all well and good, but professionals would have done the work in two days and been long gone. This guy will take for ever, except that I will kill him first. Murder may be frowned on in this burg, but no jury would convict. Not after I'd played them the tape. In real time. We could have it running in the background all through the trial, in the jury room all through their discussion. It would be only fair, the only way for them truly to understand my state of mind...
