We can has funding nao!
Sep. 10th, 2007 05:52 pmWe haven't been friends for a while, but the Arts Council and I are back on terms; they're funding the November tour of my play "A Cold Coming", to theatres in this region.
Which means that we can afford to pay the actors, hurrah! And apparently the director too, tho' why that should be necessary is entirely beyond me... (But yes, he is the man who wrote the application; he seemed to think it was important.)
And for myself, I shall get a wee percentage of the door-money (come! see! come again!!) but far more significantly (no, honestly, I mean that) for two weeks I shall be employed, on the pay-roll, in the cast-list, on Equity minimum, no less! After thirty years a professional writer, suddenly I'm a professional actor, dahlings...
And I still don't have a line. Nor could I honestly call myself a walk-on, as there is no walking involved. A lie-in? A lie-in-state? Ah, the difficulties of nomenclature!
I'll post a schedule when I have it. We may get to Leeds, that's still under negotiation; otherwise it's the Tyne and the Tees, more or less.
ETA: I should just like to point out, Equity Minimum is a lot more than Author's Minimum. I look at these numbers, and blink gently. I shoulda bin a Actor...

Date: 2007-09-11 08:22 am (UTC)Actually, one of our theatres (snigger - listen to me! "one of our theatres," forsooth...) is holding a slot for us next year for a new play - but m'director keeps glowering at me and stressing the expense of actors, the need to keep the cast list down. The play I have in mind is all set in a bar, and there's an obvious need for non-speaking drinking parts, but I don't think he'll let me...

Date: 2007-09-10 09:49 pm (UTC)Not coming to Durham as far as I know. You'll have to come to South Shields. Or Stockton, or other sillier places, but South Shields is best. (Actually, go to North Shields and take the ferry over: water! Romance! Big ships! etc)
