S'okay, I haven't fallen out of love with the LHP. When I fall in love, it is for ever.

But - thanks to [livejournal.com profile] quietspaces and [livejournal.com profile] carandol - I learned how to burn an ISO image, and I did that to make a live CD of OpenSuse 10.3, and the second time I did it - learning particularly from [livejournal.com profile] carandol's advice to do it slowly this time - it came out error-free; and even so, it won't boot the laptop as it ought. Laptop says it can't find the very CD-drive from which it is currently booting itself. Sigh.

Still, that may be a specific Suse problem, rather than something universally Sony. There are other varieties of Linux to try, it's just that Suse is the one I know. I shall lay in other live disks. Now that I know how to do it.

Oh, and I s'pose I should try booting the desktop from this Suse disk, just to check that the problem is not still in the burn; but later. I've only just turned this machine on.

In other news - well, actually I can't tell you my other news 'til it's formally announced, so my lips are unusually sealed. For now. Possess your souls in patience; it should be only a matter of hours.

I am not good at, and not interested in, the fine art of critiquing one film in terms of another; all that self-referentiality just gets right up my nose.

Even I, though, cannot watch Mrs Lovett and Toby singing "Not While I'm Around" without seeing it as a Really Sinister remake of Nancy and the Artful Dodger singing "I'd Do Anything".

Or in other words, yup. Seen the movie. Really liked it. Not entirely but certainly not least because there were three count 'em three of my lust objects on the screen. At one moment, all three of them together. Sigh...
