I was just opening a bottle of wine - well, actually I was just thinking "I don't like this corkscrew much, wish I could find my favourite one" - when the neck of the bottle splintered in my hand. Just came apart.
I would like to blame my own phenomenal grip-strength, but, y'know. It might have been a fault in the manufacture; I am inclined rather to blame the corkscrew. It's a waiter's-friend type, but not a true WF: a cheap imitation, rather. I suspect it of applying uneven pressure, due to poor design. Or something.
Anyway. I am now going to decant the bottle, keeping a sharp eye out for shards; and then I will drink it. Once it's been decanted, you know it won't keep. And I do have this manuscript to read through.
