This is just one theory. Wikipedia lists seven. I had always understood that it was a decimal scale, with 0° being the lowest temperature achievable with an ice-salt freezing mixture, and 100° being blood heat.

I misread '0 is colder than it ever gets in Denmark' as 'Q is colder...etc' and immediately had a mental picture of Desmond Llewelyn, standing next to the statue of the Little Mermaid, in Hawaiian shorts, t-shirt and shades...

Methinks me brain needs coffee.

I love that sometimes "Science" is not as scientific as it sometimes pretends to be. It's a nice reminder that scientists aren't omnipotent either, they're just some people with some Good Ideas.
