Hee. I've just sold my short-short SF story "From Alice to Everywhere, With Love" - which I started, ooh, months ago, and left just short of a finish, and finally finished last week when I was looking for something to do to rescue a bad day.
Quite apart from the general excitement of selling a story (which, yes, even after thirty years and many hundreds of stories sold: still exciting, thanks) and the disproportionate pleasure of an SF sale (because I am still madly unconfident and overconscious of my utter lack of credentials in this market, and any validation warms my cockles), I am particularly thrilled about this, because of the venue.
I'm not the first of my friends, or even the first of my f-list (you guys know who you are) to sell to this particular slot; I ride on giants' shoulders. But, y'know. Nature...
That's Nature! The magazine! The embodiment of serious scientific thought & discovery! And I, me, shall be in it...!
For those who don't know, their Futures section features short SF stories (I just googled, and behold: Cory Doctorow...). I tried them once last year and had a friendly rejection (too Peter F Hamilton, he said); this time, bingo. I am chuffed. And v grateful to m'friend'n'publisher
igw, who put me onto this...
