Draft!

You dig sixteen tons, and what do you get?

Yes, yes, another day older and deeper in debt, we know that; but make that sixty tons, where a ton is a hundred words, and you get a draft as well, or I do.

I have to be a little discreet about this one, as nothing is fixed or certain, but a friend'n'colleague whom I like and admire asked me at EasterCon if I would write a ghost story for him, as a marketing device for a prospective anthology. Contemporary, he said. So I have done that. It's a little tricksy for me, my ghost stories usually sport an embedded steel frame and this just doesn't, so I don't know if it actually holds up at all, but we shall see. For now, at least, it's done.

And just in time, as I have to go to Macclesfield tomorrow, to talk about the wonder that is my life. Gee whizz. Three and a half hours on the train each way, to spend an hour speaking of myself. And the last time I went to Macclesfield, it was for my father's funeral. I am trying not to be morbid, but it's a teensy bit difficult.

Your ghost stories are gorgeous -- I'm sure, even if you're trying something different, it will be beautiful, lyrical, and unforgettable.

Hope your trip goes well and you aren't mired in too many unhappy memories.
