It's true. I don't even like corn so much, but a couple of cobs came in my veg box this week, so I have concocted a dish: scallops, with corn and green beans in oyster sauce. We'll see.

But. That bloody cornsilk. Gets everywhere, it does.

This is why you shuck corn on the back deck.

Um. I have the sudden thought that while all those words exist in British English, the sentence itself might not.

S'okay, I speak Furrin. *g*

(Unfortunately, my house does not; I have no back deck on which to perform this shucking.)

A porch? A patio? A balcony?

How can they make a dwelling with no shucking place? Hooooowwww?

Um, I have a back yard? But it is cold and blowy. We have no shucking season here...

Do you get one of those organic veg boxes delivered? I suppose I should start again now I'm freelancing full time. But I was a bit traumatised by an upsetting experience with a squash that defied all my attempts to cut it up, so I'm dithering.

Maybe it was one of those pesky ornamental squashes in disguise?

I think it was made of concrete.

I actually have to go and collect it from a delivery-point ten minutes' walk away, but yes, that's the basic idea. I love it: I don't have to think about buying veggies, because I always know I'll have 'em, and sometimes I get something unexpected. Like corn. Which was fabulous with the scallops, as it happens...

And it tastes fabulous. Quite a shock to discover that carrots aren't flavourless, neon orange tubes.
