Oh people, my people: do not stop dead at the foot of escalators! Whether they are going up or down! The one will cause an irritating inhibition to the traffic, and the other a dangerous inhibition: because the escalator will continue to decant its cargo, spit its people out directly at you, and there is nothing they can do about this!

Also, standing still in the middle of a crowded aisle of busy shoppers? Also not good, and way too common.

Also, do not come into the Silence Room and talk! To me! For this will cause glowering, and sulks... (Actually, I was the perfect gentleman: I smiled, and vacated the table that they wanted, and decamped into an alcove, and lingered long enough - two pages' worth - to let them feel that they had not driven me out, despite their constant murmurs. And then, of course, they drove me out.)

Also, one of the cats has vomited - copiously - all over my expensive Moleskine notebooks. And I don't know which one, or why (apart from general cussedness, obviously).

So, people my people: what shall I eat tonight? Shall it be ham hash with buttered cabbage, or is it time for the capon jalfrezi? Or shall I cook the capon jalfrezi but eat the ham hash? I cannot decide, so you will have to...

Prep the capon for cooking tomorrow, giving it a day for the spicing to well and truly permeate. Eat the hash tonight.

Hee. There is a fine tradition of using leftover turkey post-Xmas to make a curry. I have capon rather than turkey, because one must be different; and I shall make a jalfrezi rather than a generic "curry", because one must be particular...

I say the capon jalfrezi. You obviously deserve indulgence.

I know what capon tates like, but not ham. Capon is good. Eat capon. Ham may be less satisfying to the soul: one must be careful with these things.

Eat the ham because the buttered cabbage sounds irresistible.

Which will keep longer? Also, putting some apples in there to cook with the buttered cabbage when pork is involved is not a Bad Idea.
