I had a physio appointment yesterday, but my regular physio was off sick, so I saw one of her colleagues. Who did a few things differently, and was generally and unsurprisingly less radical, not of course knowing what I'm used to and what I can take, and I pretty much just came away hoping that K would be back next week 'cos I doubted that S would've had much if any effect at all.

Last evening, it all suddenly got a lot worse. The hand's been tingling pretty much non-stop all night. I'm used to certain positions or certain activities triggering it, but now it seems to be always on, and when it's bad it's awful.

I don't want to suggest that S did anything wrong; I don't know enough to argue backwards from effect to cause, post hoc propter hoc is no argument and I hate that kind of fault-driven analysis. I'm just sayin', I haven't slept and my hand is bad and I am in a truly miserable state here, so you should probably not expect much blogging.

My sympathies. That's rough.

I have a shiatsu massage guy whose work I trust, but he's pretty booked up so I can't get in at a moment's notice. Then if I have some kind of real muscular issue, and complain to my spouse, and he says, 'go get a massage' he can't understand why I won't just go to some cheap massage school massage and why I insist on waiting for an opening for a person who I actually know will do the things that work on me.

Like sore hands and no sleep aren't bad enough on their own. I hope it feels better soon.

I would offer you tea - if there's nothing else you can help with...tea! - but it would cold when it got to you.

Hope you're feeling well real soon now, and I'll join the queue to buy you a drink at Eastercon.

It may be that you're now used to a certain level of intervention and that this week, it fell below that. Which is a pain in all senses. It's it any comfort, though, there is something going on with the weather which is playing merry hell with tendons everywhere -- mine are tender and complaining also. When the weather changes, things will improve.
Anyway, I will do my physio exercises and think of you.
Take care.

Sorry to hear that. On the scale of no-fun, that rates pretty high. Hope your regular physio is back soon and helps you to sort it out.

Hope it feels better in a few hours. I don't know if you've tried it, and it doesn't always work for me (tendinitis in both wrists and an old shoulder injury that affects my hand sometimes), but sometimes ice helps. Take care.

Having the right person doing the treatment makes a big difference. Hope this gets better soon.

Damn. As others have said, missing your regular person can sometimes send the body into a significant snit -- hopefully it will rebound properly. Not much help right now, I know. :-(

I'd volunteer to come read you some of the academic stuff I'm reading now that is guaranteed to put you to sleep.... but that might be just as painful as the pain.

*hugs* *sends good vibes*

I have recurring pins and needles in my shoulder blade and it feels like I've got a wing growing there or something. not painful (thank god) just really distracting. The back pain I do have is actually less distracting because I am used to it. Which has nothing to do with your hand problems. *hugs*

Aw, thank you for the huggling! *scritches shoulder-blade*

I think you should definitely grow a wing.

Also, yay back pain. An old friend. Sod it...

ooh! internet shoulder scritches!

I feel sure I will grow a wing now with such encouragement!

I do have a really wonderful chiropractor who is not just a back cracker. He's awesome and he tell really bad-wonderful jokes so I'm always laughing. :)

Okay, can't let this go unanswered. Grow a wing? What kind of a wish is that? What is anybody going to do with one wing, except look lopsided? Grow wings is the proper admonition.

Just coming out of a physio session myself and expecting a week-end of stiffness and ouchie, I send all my commiserative well-wishing.

Best of luck. Sounds like pressure on a nerve somewhere -- not necessarily in the hand itself, perhaps in the shoulder or wrist. I'd be inclined to seek out recommendations of a good McTimoney chiropractor, in case you have a joint slightly out.

Devil's claw gel is good for pain; don't know if it will do much for tingling, though.

Is absolutely nerve-stuff: complicated scarry tangles all from the neck down to the fingers, after twenty-odd years of RSI. Is horrid. Has been treated before, took two years to clear up; I never expected to stay clear for ever, but I could really do without a flare-up now. And am v scared, in case this is another long-haul job...

That sucks. I have had some similar problems, but not anywhere near so bad. Will you be able to talk this over with your regular physio soon?

I had no idea you had a physio problem with the hand. Is it related with muscle spasms? I am so sorry to hear you didn't get sleep at all. Can you get it treated and I hope it's not on the whole body.
