Sixth sense

Actually I don't think it's a sixth sense at all, this knowing-where-your-cats-are: I think that's the first sense, and all others are correspondingly demoted. (Actually, is there a traditional hierarchy, one to five? If anyone asked me to spell 'em out I'd probably go sight, sound, touch, smell, taste, but I don't know if that's the classic order or if I just think it's euphonious...)

I have been sitting here at the computer for the last hour undisturbed, once they had begged a little salami from me to help their dinner down; and if you had asked me suddenly "Chaz, where are the cats?" I would have pointed instantly back behind me, left and right: "Barry's over there, and Mac's over there."

I just realised that, and turned around to see: and yes. Don't know how I knew - they might have been anywhere, this time on a warm night - but Barry indeed is sleeping on some fallen envelopes in that corner, and Mac is on the back of the comfy chair, t'other side of the room. I knew where they were and I knew which was which, entirely without looking or thinking about it. Spooky...

Mind you, such knowledge is not much use in the middle of the night when I'm asleep, and one or other of them is knocking the freezer open. Grr.
