How many have your name?

Why do I find this interesting? Given that I do not myself live in the USA? Because I'll be related to every one of these, and probably quite closely. We're a small family; there are only 630 Brenchleys in the whole of America. One branch is absolutely my own family: my grandfather's elder brother did the black-sheep thing (and we don't know what, or why!!!) and went to the States in disgrace, where he did that traditional black-sheep thing from so many romantic novels, he married an oil heiress. So I have a whole bunch of extremely wealthy American cousins, and they don't even know I exist, sob...

Interestingly, Charles (yes, I did this test with 'Charles Brenchley', on account of 'Chaz' not being in their database) is the ninth most popular first name in the States. There aren't that many of us over here.

Beat ya!

Daemonstrably so. But not alone (if that makes grammatical sense): there aren't any [livejournal.com profile] fastfwds either, apparently. Didja check how many there are of [your surname]? 'Cos again, Simon would seem to me to be a more common name than Charles (tho', again, maybe not in America...).

Although I doubt if any of them are related - but am willing to share your oil family if you're feeling generous. And tried it with my maiden name - zilch - not even on the database - but then there's not many of us in this country!

Y'know, just looking at these posts and a few others who've done this meme, I'm starting to wonder if there's some observable correlation between being from a small family and hanging out on LJ. Are we making up for a lack of cousins, by adopting all these webby friends...?

Us Woodhouses (Woodhice?) are fairly common in the UK, but not many are related to me that I know of; I have a fairly small family. Not sure how common Woodhouse is in the US, but apparently there are only 15 Sarah Woodhouses. I thought there would be more!

You should definitely find an excuse to introduce yourself to your wealthy relatives ;)

Certainly Woodhice (tho' it makes you sound more posh than plural, said aloud). "I thought there would be more" is definitely a swelling theme.

And yup, Louisiana here I come... That's if they're still in Louisiana. I kind of hope so; I think I'd like it there. I know I'd like the food, which is always a good beginning.

The site is incorrect. It claims there are 0 people in the US with my name -- and there are two --myself and my mother. We've filled out census forms and we pay taxes, so we're in the data base somewhere.

So -- you may have more relations over here that the particular base lists.

I'd suggest Ancestry.com?

Oh, phooey. Another bubble burst. Don't you hate it, when you take something on trust and it lets you down?

Sorry, everybody. As you were...

Seems there are two of me. Interesting since there seems to be about the same number of mes in France, at least than I can find traces of on the Net. None of them Murrycan homonyms is related to me, of course, since Dad was first of the line. Mind you, should any of those two be an obscenely-wealthy oil baron with a yen for boasting of a French relative (however unlikely this seems), I might all of a sudden relax my stern standards.

Oh yeah — I can be venal. No sweat.
