How Green Is My Card, II: In Which I Am Welcomed

Karen had a courtesy notification this morning, because people here are truly courteous; but I had a letter.

Welcome to the United States, it said. This is to inform you that your application for permanent residence has been approved.

I should get the card in the next three weeks, they say. Oh, and all this is still subject to this that and the other, and I do still face revocation, rescission (I had to look that one up) and/or removal if appropriate. But hey. I was just sitting at the lunch table with m'wife watching our dragonfly in the back yard, and thinking "I am legally allowed to do this, yay!"

To celebrate, I am making hummus and pitta bread, for those are universally cultural artefacts; and we are going to Jaym's place to hang out with people and eat stuffs and very possibly drink. Very possibly drink a lot, in my case. I'm allowed to, okay?

Congratulations on achieving greencardnery. Though I assume that the memorable part of this day will be 'Chaz had to look up a word in the dictionary'.

Heh. Actually I look words up quite often, but that's mostly either to refine their meanings in my head or to refute someone else's usage with actual evidence. In this case, I've just never seen the word. The meaning was inherent in context, but even so. New word! (And I'm not yet entirely clear on the distinction between it and revocation; I may need to haul out Karen's complete OED...)
